Abuja is warming up for a historic end-of-year celebration as preparations peak for Groovy December, a 17-day entertainment and tourism festival scheduled for December 15 to 31.
Speaking in Abuja, at a roadmap ahead of the event, the Coordinator of the Emerging Abuja Programme, Dr Kenneth Ibe Kalu, said the initiative aims to position the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, as a major tourism and economic hub.
According to him, the festival will feature over 35 activities, including hiking at Karishi Waterfalls, tours of Shafa Village, a Suya Festival, food-eating competitions, football contests, Culture Fest, Miss Groovy December pageant and a planned Groovy Tombola. He said the goal is to attract millions of visitors, including Nigerians in the Diaspora.
Dr Kalu disclosed that although the event enjoys the backing of the FCTA and the Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, funding is largely private.
