Several passengers were injured on Monday after a train operating on the busy Abuja–Kaduna Railway derailed while travelling from Kaduna to Abuja, forcing the service to halt midway through the journey.
The disruption occurred along the rail corridor linking the Federal Capital Territory with Kaduna State, preventing the passenger train from reaching its destination as scheduled.
A source within the Nigerian Railway Corporation confirmed the incident but declined to provide details, noting he was not authorised to speak publicly on the matter.
Passengers onboard described a moment of panic when the train suddenly jolted to a stop. Some travellers said they heard a loud bang before the coaches shook violently, throwing occupants off their seats and causing confusion inside the compartments.
