The 20th edition of Abuja International Film Festival has announced the nominees and honorees for the year 2023 edition, which is scheduled to take place from October 30 to November 3, 2023.
According to the festival operations officer, Fidelia Abah Duker, this year’s festival promises an exciting lineup of screenings, panel discussions, workshops and training at various centres across Abuja, including Silverbird Cinemas. Other hubs would include French Cultural Centre, the Chinese Cultural Center, the Korean Cultural Centre, Abuja Continental Hotel, and several outdoor locations. These diverse venues are scheduled to create an immersive cinematic experience for both local film enthusiasts and international guests according to the festival operation officer.
He explained that the festival received an impressive 457 film submissions, out of which 101 were selected as official selections. He disclosed that 39 films made it to the prestigious nominees’ list.
To celebrate outstanding films, he added, the Festival would honour 30 deserving individuals and organizations for their unwavering support during its two decades of existence. These included honourees who had played a pivotal role in the growth and success of the festival, contributing significantly to the development of the Nigerian and international film industries with exceptional filmmaking talent from Nigeria and around the world.
Some of the nominees are: ‘The Delectable Azeezah Sama’- Nigeria; Its Just Business – New Zealand18 – Nigeria; and Rabbies – Spain’s The Return of Abel Frances. Others are Temitope Elijah OlaiyaGbese– Adesola Aduragbemi, Oni The Major – Chukwuka Kenechukwu Ndife, ‘Bring Me flowers Prince Daniel Secrets of the Farm – Jato Ehijator FEATURE FILM – NIGERIA, Journey to Matyrdon- John Adayilor MosesThe other one – Lilian Amah AlukoTraditions.
The festival provides a platform for industry professionals, emerging filmmakers, and film lovers to come together, fostering cultural exchange and celebrating the power of cinema.
In an open invitation to film lovers and stakeholders, Duker asked show-stoppers to take advantage of the festival and join the 20th Abuja International Film Festival as they showcase the best of global cinema and honor individuals who have contributed to the growth of the film industry.
