Abuja bridal designer joins African fashion icons at international wedding dressmaking masterclass

 

Abuja became the centre of African bridal fashion as Petra by Design hosted a 2-Day Wedding Dressmaking Masterclass that brought together some of the continent’s most respected designers.

The event featured: Dr. Clement Asemnyra – Ghanaian designer celebrated for innovative approaches to fashion and design. Also, Mrs. Anna Peters Lunguya Tanzanian designer with decades of experience shaping East Africa’s bridal industry. As well as Osereme Happy Okoukoni Okojie (popularly known as Osereme okojie) Abuja based bridal designer and Tutor, founder of Reme Bridals, known for timeless yet modern bespoke gowns.

Together, they delivered a rich programme of training and inspiration for bridal fashion creatives from across Nigeria.

Representing Nigeria’s capital city, Osereme was invited to teach a session on Corset Construction She demonstrated the techniques behind precise construction, intricate detailing, and refined finishes all hallmarks of her brand’s signature style.

Known for blending elegance with modern trends, she guided participants through practical demonstrations and shared business insights for sustaining a successful bridal brand.

The masterclass also featured sessions from Dr. Clement Asemnyra, who shared innovative design concepts rooted in Ghanaian craftsmanship and Draping, and Mrs. Anna Peters Lunguya whose extensive teaching experience has inspired many young designers in Tanzania, a multi award winner, contributed her own insights on business strategy, creativity, and client relations as a bridal Designer. The Host Petra took lessons on making a ball dress, petticoats and many more.

With speakers from Ghana, Tanzania, and Nigeria, the masterclass fostered a unique cross border exchange of ideas and techniques. Attendees included aspiring designers, professional tailors, and bridal boutique owners all eager to take their skills to the next level.

Reme’s teaching made complex techniques feel achievable, said one participant. “I left the room ready to elevate my gown designs immediately.” Many noted that the combination of local and international expertise made the event an invaluable experience.

For Reme, the masterclass was both an opportunity to share her craft and to highlight Abuja’s growing role in the African fashion scene. “It was an honour to stand alongside such respected creatives from across the continent,” she said. “Events like this prove that when we share knowledge across borders, we all grow stronger.”
