The women of Ohafia/Arochukwu federal Constituency of Abia State have commended the member representing the area in the Green Chamber of the National Assembly, Hon Ibe Okwara Osonwa over his empowerment programme for women of the area.

The women gave the commendation while receiving start-up kits and cash after participating in vocational training in hairdressing, soap making, and makeup artistry organized by the lawmaker.

Expressing their gratitude, some of the over 200 beneficiaries shared how the program had positively impacted them.

Speaking after the programme, Nwoko Oyidiya Ama from Arochukwu said
the initiative was a testament to Hon. Osonwa’s unwavering commitment to improving the lives of widows and vulnerable women in his constituency by providing sustainable means of livelihood.

“I’ve been longing for an opportunity like this. Hon. Ibe came through. May God bless him.”

Another participant, Mrs. Mercy Chikezie from Isu, who was part of the makeup class, said, “I learnt so much. I’m truly grateful to Hon. Ibe for this opportunity. It’s very motivating.”

Mrs. Nneoma Mba Idika, a hairdresser, also appreciated the support: “I thank Hon. Ibe for his initiative. It will go a long way in boosting my business. May God bless him.”

Hon Osonwa while speaking at the event said the programme was part of his ongoing efforts to promote grassroots development and economic self-reliance.

“We started in October 2024 with training for farmers and small business owners, delivered in partnership with experts from the agricultural sector. Many participants received startup grants, with some receiving as much as ₦500,000 to support their work.

“In March 2025, we expanded into ICT and education. We distributed laptops, supported digital learning in schools, and helped students prepare for JAMB through scholarships and registration support.

“Now, in July 2025, our focus is on vocational training. For many families, access to practical skills like soap-making or hairdressing can be the difference between dependency and self-reliance”, he said
