Abia: Schoolchildren kidnapped while boarding tricycle

Two pupils returning from school on Friday were abducted at Umuosu-Nsulu in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia State by suspected kidnappers.

Reports from the area indicated that six schoolchildren were returning from school that day when it started to rain heavily.

On sighting an approaching commercial tricycle, popularly known as a Keke, they flagged it down and asked the operator, who was already carrying two women, to drop them at a marketplace from where they hoped to make their way to their various homes.

It was reported that instead of stopping at their intended destination, the Keke operator deliberately drove past the marketplace before stopping, claiming he had run out of fuel.

The Keke operator reportedly handed money to the four older children and instructed them to buy fuel. They went to purchase the fuel as directed.

However, by the time they returned, the tricycle operator had sped away with the remaining two children and the two women, who were suspected to be his accomplices, to an unknown destination.

The whereabouts of the abducted children remain unknown.
