The Abia State Police Command has disclosed that it would prosecute a woman, Nwoko Gift, 35, for her alleged attempt to murder her niece, Miss Ebony Chimamanda, 12, at their residence.
A statement by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Maureen Chinaka, said the police in state were aware of a viral video on social media depicting a woman attempting to harm a young girl with a knife.
Chinaka said the suspect, who hails from Ehime Mbano, Imo State, but resides at the IBB Housing Estate, Umuahia, had, on July 5, allegedly attempted to kill Miss Ebo, who stays with her, on the basis that she refused to spread the clothes she was asked to spread before the suspect (Mrs. Nwoko) left for the market.
Chinaka said operatives from the World Bank Divisional Police Headquarters, Umuahia, leveraging on information, raced to the scene, rescued the victim, apprehended the suspect, and recovered the exhibit knife. Chinaka equally revealed that the suspect had repeatedly beaten and had been threatening to kill young Miss Chimamanda.
The statement said the suspect has been apprehended and the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), and that the suspect would be charged to court for attempted murder upon conclusion of investigation.
