Abia police arrest couple over suspected child trafficking, rescue 12 children

Abia State police command said they have arrested a couple in Aba, Abia State for alleged child trafficking and operating an unregistered motherless babies home.

A statement from the command’s police public relations officer (PPRO), Maureen Chinaka said on May 19, personnel of the command, leveraging credible intelligence, raided the home of
Blessing Emebo (f), 49, and
Sunday Emebo (m), 42, on Ikot Ekpene Road, which they turned into illegal motherless babies home.

Chinaka said during the raid, the suspects were found in possession of 12 children, aged between six months and fourteen years, from different villages in Arochukwu, Abia State.

The victims include Ojiugo Caleb ‘m’ 14,
Christian okoro ‘m’ 12, Samuel okoro ‘m’ 13, Clinton Nkemakolam ‘m’ 9, Godwin Emmanuel ‘m’ 10, and Osinachi Nkemakolam ‘m’ 6.

Others are Marvelous Emmanuel ‘m’ 5, David Emmanuel ‘m’ 7, Testimony Emebo ‘m’, 2 months, Ogechi Nkemakolam ‘f’ 9,
Chinaza Okoro ‘f’ 9, and Anointing Okoro ‘f’ 7.

Chinaka added that the rescued children have been handed over to the Ministry of Women Affairs for custody.

The suspects are said to be undergoing interrogation at the state CID Umuahia and would be arraigned in court after investigation.
