Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said it will pick a new governorship candidate on February 4, in Abia State to replace Professor Uchenna Ikonne, who died last week.
The PDP, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said this is in line with Section 33 of the Electoral Act 2022.
According to the statement, the sale of forms for the primary election would commence on January 27. It noted that fresh aspirants were permitted to participate in the current exercise alongside those who contested in the earlier primary.
Meanwhile, National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP has lifted the suspension of two members of the party in Ekiti State, namely; Prince Funso Ayeni (Ekiti North Senatorial Candidate) and Otunba Ajayi Babatunde Samuel (Ekiti North II Federal Constituency candidate), from the party.
The party, in a separate statement by Ologunagba, noted: “This decision of the NWC is sequel to the report of the Disciplinary Committee which recommended the lifting of the suspension on Prince Funso Ayeni, Otunba Ajayi Babatunde Samuel on the ground of manifest remorse, apology for their conduct, affirmed loyalty to the party and the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017) as well as renewed commitment towards the success of the PDP at all levels in the 2023 general elections.”
