Ahead of the forthcoming elections, Abians have berated Abia State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joseph Ilo, for allegedly compromising on recruitment and appointment of ad-hoc staff members.

According to the Secretary of People’s Mandate,  a pressure group, Ada Okeke, the REC may be working in favour of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Speaking at a roundtable in Umuahia, yesterday, the secretary lamented the unbalanced appointments in Abia State INEC office, alleging that the electoral process has been manipulated to satisfy candidates of APGA.

He said: “ Voters are worried because of the lopsided appointment of ad-hoc staff members by INEC in Abia State. Most of the ad-hoc staff members recruited by the REC in the state are loyal to APGA and this is unfair to other political parties.”

Corroborating the group, a chieftain of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Isiukwuato Local Government Area of Abia State, pointed out that it was known to the general public that the INEC in the state is supporting APGA.

“Most of the ad-hoc staff members engaged by INEC in Abia State have ties with APGA.”

Describing the situation as undemocratic and painful, the politician urged INEC in the state to follow due process in the discharge of its responsibilities.
