Abia oil communities commend Tinubu, others over Reps seat allocation

Ukwa East:West Federal Constituency

From Okey Sampson, Umuahia

The people of Asa in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State have lauded President Bola  Tinubu, Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, for giving ticket to Sam Nwogu from the area for the Ukwa House of Representatives seat for the 2027 election.

The people said their brothers (the Ndoki people) from Ukwa East Local Government Area have held the position for the past 20 years and that it would have been the height of injustice if someone from Ndoki, which is still occupying the position, was giving the ticket.

In a communique issued by the Asa Development Union (ADU), the umbrella body of Asa people, after its meeting at Obehie, and read by her Secretary, Boniface Nwaigwe, the people commended President Tinubu, Governor Uzodimma, and Yilwatda for ensuring that Asa people were not shortchanged anymore by giving their son, Nwogu, the ticket for the House of Representatives seat for Ukwa Federal constituency.

The people said the emergence of Chief Nwogu as the flag-bearer of the All Progressives Congress for the Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency for the 2027 election has ushered in a new era of joy, peace, unity, and renewed hope.

“This is particularly significant for the Asa people, who have not had the opportunity of representing Ndi Ukwa at the National Assembly in the last 19 years and counting.

“We, therefore, want to recall that we, in a letter dated January 19, 2026, addressed to the National Chairman of the APC, rightly highlighted this particular issue of inequity and marginalisation as long as the issue of who represents Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency is concerned.

“Therefore, we want to use this medium, today, to thank him and the National Working Committee for standing on the path of truth and for ensuring transparency and justice in the just concluded primaries of the APC for Ukwa East/West Federal Constituency election”.

The communique enumerated the numerous achievements of Chief Nwogu over the years and said the people will be happy to have him represent them at the House of Representatives.

Also speaking, Dr. Akanwa Franklin, the National Chairman of New Ukwa Progressive Initiative (NUPI), equally appreciated President Tinubu and the National Working Committee members of the APC for having done justice for the Ukwa people, by giving the House of Representatives ticket for the area to Asa man.

“NUPI, particularly, wished to commend the party’s decision for consolidating on the principle of equity, fairness, and justice in Ukwa federal constituency through the emergence of Chief Nwogu as the APC candidate for the 2027 Federal House of Representatives election. This decision has restored confidence and reaffirmation of the longstanding aspirations of the people of Ukwa for equitable representation”.

Others who spoke, including Ugwumba Adiele who hails from Ukwa East, hailed the decision of APC’s NWC for ceding the position to Ukwa West, which they said had been marginalised for a long time.

They said with the decision, the people of the area will vote for President Tinubu and the APC en masse in 2027.
