Stakeholders in Abia North Senatorial District have unanimously endorsed former Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, for re-election, citing his legislative accomplishments, constituency projects, and commitment to the development of the district.
The endorsement was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by Professor of Sociology, Ohajuru Nnabuike, on behalf of the stakeholders.
According to the stakeholders, effective legislative representation requires experience, competence, and the ability to attract democratic dividends to the people—qualities they said Kalu has consistently demonstrated since his election to the Senate.
They described the former Senate Chief Whip as a grassroots politician whose wealth of political experience and legislative capacity have translated into tangible benefits for the people of Abia North.
The stakeholders said they had resolved to throw their weight behind Kalu’s return to the National Assembly, insisting that continuity remains critical to sustaining the developmental gains recorded in the senatorial district.
“We cannot trade a proven performer for an unknown personality whose political capacity to attract development to the senatorial district remains uncertain,” the statement read.
They noted that Kalu’s representation has brought significant progress to the district through quality legislation, effective advocacy, and constituency development initiatives, stressing that ongoing projects and programmes should be consolidated rather than disrupted by unnecessary political experimentation.
The group also appealed to Gen Z and first-time voters to participate actively in the democratic process by supporting candidates with demonstrable records of service and impactful representation.
Expressing confidence in Kalu’s ability to deliver more dividends of democracy, the stakeholders said his return to the Red Chamber would further enhance efforts to attract federal infrastructure projects, facilitate people-oriented policies, and promote legislation that advances the welfare of both the people of Abia North and Nigerians in general.
They reaffirmed their commitment to mobilising support across the senatorial district ahead of the next National Assembly elections, expressing optimism that Kalu’s continued representation would consolidate and expand the developmental strides already recorded in Abia North.
