A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, Chief (Mrs) Lillian Obenwa, has called on the people of Isuikwuato Local Government Area to support the re-election bids of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Orji Uzor Kalu, in 2027.
Obewo, popularly known as “Igolo”, made the call on Monday during Kalu’s ongoing ward-to-ward tour of Isuikwuato, saying both leaders had delivered beyond expectations and deserved the continued support of the people.
She said Kalu’s performance in Abia North, particularly in road construction, education, scholarships, empowerment and legislative representation, had given the people enough reasons to continue supporting him.
“We have seen what Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has done in Abia North. We have seen the roads, the schools, scholarships, empowerment programmes and opportunities he has attracted for our young people. He has also given Abia North a strong voice in Abuja,” Obewo said.
According to her, Kalu has facilitated more than 70 road projects across the five local government areas of Abia North and the construction and renovation of over 100 school blocks and classrooms.
She also listed the provision of desks, textbooks, school uniforms and other educational materials, as well as scholarships and international training opportunities for constituents, among interventions facilitated by the senator.
“When somebody is working, you encourage him to do more. Senator Kalu has remained close to his people. He comes back home, visits the communities, listens to the people and takes their concerns back to Abuja. That is the kind of representation we want,” she said.
Kalu’s tour has taken him through several communities and wards in Isuikwuato, including Oguduasa, Avuvu, Nunya, Isuamawu Ward 4 in Eluama, Umubiala Ward 12, Otamkpa Ward 3, Mgbelu Umunnekwu Ward 6 and Amiyi Obilohia Ward 5.
At the different stops, the senator presented his report card, acknowledged challenges raised by residents and assured them that he would continue to work with the communities to attract more development to the area.
Obewo noted that Isuikwuato had benefited from Kalu’s representation through road and educational projects, adding that his interventions were spread across communities in Arochukwu, Bende, Ohafia, Isikwuato and Umunneochi.
She also praised Kalu’s legislative record, saying his sponsorship of bills and motions on national issues showed that his activities were not limited to constituency projects.
“What is important to us is performance. Senator Kalu has not forgotten Isuikwuato. His projects are there for people to see, and in Abuja he has continued to speak for Abia North. We want that partnership to continue,” she said.
On President Tinubu, Obenwa declared thqt his administration had embarked on reforms and infrastructure projects which, according to her, required continuity to produce their full benefits.
She cited major road projects, the student loan programme and investments in infrastructure noting some that were beneficial to the Southeast and other sectors as some of the reasons she was canvassing support for the president.
“President Tinubu inherited enormous challenges, and nobody is saying that everything has been solved. But we can see the work going on. We need continuity to consolidate these programmes and allow more of their impact to reach ordinary Nigerians,” she said.
“I am therefore appealing to our people in Isikwuato to stand with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Orji Uzor Kalu in 2027. We have seen their records. Let us support them to continue the work.”
Obenwa urged APC members and supporters in Isikwuato to take the message to the grassroots and engage the people on the records of the president and the senator ahead of the 2027 general elections.
