The Eziukwu Road market in Aba, Abia State, has computerised it’s financial activities to block loopholes discovered in collection and management of it’s traders’ association’s funds.
The move, according to it’s leadership, led to the remittance of N31,628,000, as taxes and other approved levies to the state government for the year, 2023, by the traders.
In a letter to the chairman of the state internal revenue service, Prof. Ogbonna Udochukwu, which was signed by the market association interim management committee chairman, Chief Alphonsus Udeigbo and secretary, Darlington Achonu, respectively, the association, said 1,392 traders in the market, were identified as having paid their dues to the authorities while an undisclosed number, refused to pay.
“For IGR 2023, our market made a total payment of N31,620,000, from 1,392 traders in the market. Furthermore, we are happy to inform the public that we have procured computer equipment and engaged competent ICT staff, for the total computerisation of our activities from October, 2023 which has started yielding good results,” the association said.
It called on the state revenue service, to use its task force to force defaulters to make them honour their civic obligations to the government, stressing that with the new computerised system in place, more accurate taxes accruing to the government, will be collected and remitted without much stress, henceforth.
