From Ogbonnaya Ndukwe, Aba
This year’s yuletide will be celebrated like no other by Madam Comfort Okwuonu, a childless octogenarian widow. She has cause to praise God for the provision of a new three-bedroom apartment built and donated to her by a lawyer, Chief Ahamdi Nweke.
Nweke heard of her plight of sleeping in a church hall in Omoba, Isiala South Council Area of Abia State, and came to the rescue within two months.
The benefactor is a London-trained lawyer/politician; he contested the Abia Central Senatorial seat on the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in 2023.
At the handover of the bungalow in Umuezurike, Ike-Ahaba community, Isiala Ngwa South, Nweke said he was touched on hearing that the indigent widow had for years been sleeping in a church hall due to lack.
He said the gesture was a way of showing love and capacity through putting smiles on the faces of the underprivileged in the society. He then announced the adoption of the widow as his mother.
Mrs. Mercy Alozie, leader of Udo Abia Foundation Women’s Prayer Network, a group promoted by Nweke, lauded him for the gesture and urged other wealthy individuals and those in government to emulate the good disposition by assisting the underprivileged.
The 80-year-old recipient, Okwuonu, popularly known as Da Nchama, was full of gratitude. She thanked the sponsor for his benevolence, stressing that the feat God had used him to achieve would not go unrewarded.
