Abia: Kalu, Orji, Onyejeocha, others win APC Reps primaries

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Benjamin Kalu, immediate past Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Chief Chinedum Orji, and former Minister of State for Labour and Productivity, Hon Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, were among the candidates who clinched the All Progressives Congress (APC) tickets after the House of Representatives primaries held in the state.

Announcing the winners of the primaries for the eight federal constituencies in Abia State ahead of the 2027 general elections on Saturday night at the party’s state secretariat in Umuahia, Chairman of the Abia State National Assembly Primary Election Committee, Erasmus Cishak, said the exercise was successfully conducted across the state.

Cishak disclosed that party members participated actively in the primaries to elect candidates who will fly the APC flag in the forthcoming general elections.

According to Cishak, in Bende Federal Constituency, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Benjamin Okezie Kalu, emerged unopposed as the party’s candidate for a third term.

Also returned unopposed was the Minister of State for Labour and Employment and former House of Representatives member for Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Hon Nkiruka Onyejeocha, who secured the APC ticket for the constituency.

In Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon Chinedum Orji, emerged victorious in the party’s primary election.

Other winners announced by the party include Hon Chris Nkwonta for Ukwa East/Ukwa West Federal Constituency, Hon Uzor Azubuike for Aba North/Aba South Federal Constituency, and Hon Uzoma Theodore Uka for Isiala Ngwa North/Isiala Ngwa South Federal Constituency.

The party also declared Hon Udo Alozie winner of the Obingwa/Osisioma/Ugwunagbo Federal Constituency primary, while Hon Ikenna Nicholas clinched the APC ticket for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency.

Cishak commended party members and stakeholders for what he described as their peaceful conduct during the exercise, informing that the committee upheld transparency and fairness throughout the primary process.
