The Diaspora Alliance and Coalition has commended the reform-driven leadership of Governor Alex Otti of Abia State.

The group described the state as an emerging model for effective governance, diaspora engagement, and subnational economic transformation in Nigeria.

In a communiqué signed by Emmanuel Ihim at the end of deliberations in Washington, DC, United States, the coalition noted that governance challenges across Africa often stem from poor execution, rather than lack of vision.

The group added that Abia is charting a different course by prioritising delivery, accountability, and measurable outcomes.

According to the group, the Otti administration has distinguished itself through fiscal discipline, transparency in public finance, institutional reforms, and renewed investment in critical infrastructure.

The efforts, according to Ihim, are restoring public trust and redefining governance as a results-driven system.

He added that one key aspect of Otti’s inclusive leadership is the deliberate integration of Nigerians in the diaspora into the state’s development agenda.

The coalition described this as a paradigm shift, recognising diaspora citizens as strategic partners rather than distant contributors.

The meeting also generated a Memorandum of Understanding between the Abia State Government and the coalition towards establishing a framework for long-term collaboration on projects, such as the proposed Diaspora Smart City, Abia International Schools, a STEM Academy, and a Digital Innovation Hub.

The Smart City is envisioned as a secure, technology-driven, environmentally sustainable urban centre with residential communities, innovation hubs, and business parks.

The coalition also mentioned the state’s broader economic strategy, focused on industrialisation, agro-processing, clean energy, creative industries, and tourism.

The group urged policymakers nationwide to adopt similar models and called on Nigerians abroad to invest and support development efforts.
