Abia concludes plans to build industrial park

Abia State Government has concluded plans to perform the ground breaking ceremony of Abia Innovation Industrial Park located at Owaza in Ukwa West LGA .

 

The event is slated to hold on the 6th of September at Owaza, Ukwa West LGA

 

The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Prince Okey Kanu disclosed this in a press briefing with some of his colleagues after the special 32nd Abia Anniversary Executive Council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti. He explained that the industrial park is significant as it would host a modular refinery, manufacturing plant, incubation centre and other industrial concerns and would be one of the biggest in West Africa.

 

Prince Kanu disclosed that a 1.2 kilometre road at Obehie, constructed by ASOPADEC would also be commissioned soonest while some roads been reconstructed by Governor Alex Otti, including Umuimo, Shalom, Emelogu, Cemetry and Udeagbala roads in Aba, would soon be commissioned as they are nearing completion. He said the government is desilting various drainages in roads in Aba to mitigate flooding in the city and is reviewing the existing structure in Aba to ensure that what happened in Ekeoha shopping centre , where there was a building collapse would be avoided.

 

The State Information boss further informed that the State government is committed to recovering public assets converted to private use , adding that recovering and repackaging of Aba master plan is ongoing too.

 

Contributing, the Commissioner for Environment and Urban Renewal, Mr. Philemon Ogbonna, Commissioner for Education, Professor Uche Eme-Uche and Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Aba rejuvenation, Mr. Uche Ukeje maintained that all school lands taken over by individuals would be recovered and a safe and conducive environment provided for students and pupils in the State.

 

They assured that the industrial park which would not be a white elephant project would be driven by private sector participation while the State government will provide land, access and enabling environment, emphasising that the industrial park is part of making good the campaign promises of Governor Otti of making Abia an industrial hub. They said the park would be powered by gas and informed that Abia State government would host the 82nd Joint Consultative Plenary Meeting on education between 4th and 8th September while inviting everyone to the meeting and the grand finale of 2023 Abia Day celebrations taking place on Tuesday, 29th August with an anniversary lecture by a former Minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesiri ,as well as unveiling of the Abia State Orientation Agency.
