Abia baby factory: 2 nabbed, gov’s wife pledges inmates rehabilitation

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the Nma baby factory, located at Umunkpeyi, Nvosi in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State.

Soldiers had, last week, raided the baby factory, rescued 21 pregnant teenagers and recovered two babies, while the owner of the home escaped arrest. This was disclosed when the wife of the state governor, Mrs, Priscilla Otti, visited the home.

This is even as the First Lady of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Otti, has assured that adequate measures were being taken to rehabilitate the 21 teenage girls rescued from the baby factory.

Mrs. Otti, who gave the assurance when she paid an unscheduled visit to the pregnant teenagers at Madonna College of Health Technology, Olokoro, Umuahia, where they were being taken care of, expressed sadness over the incident. The wife of the governor, accompanied by the Senior Special Assistant (Special Duties) to the Governor, Dr. (Mrs.) Betty Emeka-Obasi, described the development as both disappointing and heartbreaking.

While promising of government’s providing temporary care for the baby factory victims, she regretted that such an unfortunate act was being carried out in the state. She assured that the government would partner charity homes, churches and other stakeholders to provide necessary assistance to care for young girls and children in the state, who are being taken advantage of.

Receiving the wife of the governor, the Provost, Rev. Fr. Christian Anokwuru, said the girls were brought to the facility following their rescue by the state government a few days ago. He disclosed that the 21 girls, who are pregnant, have undergone necessary medical tests to determine their health status.
