The Abia State governorship candidate of the Action People’s Party (APP), Major General Ijioma Nwokoro Ijioma (retd), has kicked off his campaign for the 2027 polls with the promise to, among other things, secure the release of convicted leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, if elected.
Speaking at Umuhu-Ezechi, in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State, where the flag off took place, General Ijioma said it was unfortunate that despite pronouncements by courts of competent jurisdiction for Kanu’s release, he was still left in prison.
“If elected governor of Abia State in 2027, I will use every available means, including legal, to ensure that Kanu, whom courts of competent jurisdiction have freed, will regain his freedom without further delay.
“I will compel the Federal Government, using every available means, to release Kanu because there’s nothing he did that Sunday Igboho had not done. And, again, there’s nothing he did the Boko Haram people, some of whom have been given amnesty, have not done”.
Ijioma revealed there are 23 items in his manifesto with which he promised to use to transform Abia to a modern state, far from what it is presently.
“I have identified the challenges confronting Abia, today, and the most serious is hunger and anger. I will feed the hungry and remove the anger through good governance. If I become the governor of Abia State, next year, I will tackle insecurity headlong by using what we call in the military, invisible security architecture, to ensure Fulani herdsmen will not terrorise the state”.
On agriculture, the APP governorship candidate said his administration will establish 17 large farms in all the local government areas, and three state farms in the three Senatorial zones of the state, to ensure enough food is produced to feed the populace.
“Apart from the establishment of farms, my administration will open shops where goods will be sold at subsidised rates to make them cheap and reduce the sufferings of Abians”.

He promised to establish a university in Umuhu-Ezechi and reconstruct their roads, which are in very deplorable condition.

He taunted the administration of Governor Alex Otti as “government of error, for error, and by error”, which he said he has come to erase.
“Sometime ago, they bought photocopying machines and posted huge figures as the amount. When it was discovered, they said the amount was posted in error.
“Recently, they bought Hilux vans and, again, posted huge figures for the amount they bought them. When that was discovered, they also said it was a mistake, and I say we cannot continue to have this government of error in Abia, and that’s why I have come to erase it and entrench a serious and careful administration”.
He mocked the Otti administration for claiming to have spent billions of naira in the building of smart schools, whereas none exists in Abia North, and promised to address the issue if he comes to power. The APP governorship candidate accused the present administration of receiving unprecedented revenue in the history of the state, but with little to show for it.
Ijioma said with the careful implementation of his manifesto, if elected governor, he would build a new Abia not based on propaganda, but on reality. He said it was not for nothing that he survived 36 road accidents and two near aircraft crashes.
“It was for one purpose God allowed that: to take over Abia State in 2027 and end the sufferings of my people”. He promised not to fail them if elected governor in 2027.
A prominent son of Umuhu-Ezechi, Chief Nkwachukwu Ikwuegbu, commended General Ijioma for his tenacity of purpose. While wishing the APP governorship candidate well, he urged him to remember the promise he made to the community, if elected governor of the state.
