Abia ADC Reps candidate promises to serve one tenure if elected

The House of Representatives candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for Obingwa, Osisioma and Ugwunagbo federal constituency, Kelechi Onyeobia, has, like the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, promised to serve  only one tenure of four years if elected.

Onyeobia, who made the disclosure while addressing newsmen in Aba, Abia State, said his decision to serve only a single term was hinged on the fact that the three component blocs that make up the federal constituency signed an agreement allotting two terms of eight years to each bloc.

He disclosed that as a result of the arrangement, Hon. Munachim Alozie, who is from his area, is presently occupying the seat, adding that if elected, he will take over from the Reps member to complete the bloc’s eight years.

Onyeobia said: “When I said I will run only for a single term of four years, it is in respect of the agreement we reached that the House of Representatives seat should be rotated among the three blocs on two terms basis. Obingwa and Osisioma areas have done theirs and the lot now falls on Ugwunagbo, which is presently occupying the seat.

“So, if I am elected in 2027, I am going to complete the second tenure of Ugwunagbo. The person who is occupying the seat presently has not done anything and my people are aware of this, and I’m going there to change the narrative”.

Onyeobia, who expressed optimism of winning the election, said those contesting against him for the seat had not done anything for their people in the past, adding that the House of Representatives is not for experimentation. “Those who are contesting against me have not done anything for our people before now. Even one of them has stayed in the House of Assembly for over 12 years without achieving anything”.

Onyeobia said his priority, if he gets to the Green Chambers of the National Assembly, will be to lobby and attract a federal university to his constituency which, he said, it is lacking at present.

“It is a matter of worry that there is no federal university in the whole of Abia South.

And my constituency being part of Abia South, I will strive to attract a federal government owned university to the area”.

The ADC House of Representatives hopeful reeled out many things he has done for his people in the education sector, youths empowerment, and sports, and promised quality representation if elected.
