The Chairman of Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State, Mrs. Amina Audu, who was abducted with her driver, has been released after four days in captivity.

Gunmen abducted the suspended chairman and her driver on Monday, November 13, 2023 along Naka-Makurdi Road.

Audu, who spoke to our reporters on phone on Friday, said their captors released them on Thursday between 7:00 and 8:00pm. Narrating her story, she said that they were fed with pawpaw and Garri while they were in custody of the kidnappers.

“You know how harrowing it is to be with kidnappers, I cannot even say much now,” she told Saturday Sun.

Audu could not give the actual amount the kidnappers collected as ransom, stressing that she was yet to “discussed that with those who negotiated our release.”

Naka/Makurdi Road has become notorious for kidnapping activities carried out by bandits masquerading as herdsmen. Last weekend, gunmen attacked a Benue Links vehicle and kidnapped 15 passengers.
