From Okey Sampson, Umuahia
Police have arrested the facility manager and two staff members of Aba Textile Mill for allegedly stealing and vandalising the mill’s property.
Their identities remain undisclosed. Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, announced this during a briefing in Umuahia, warning that the government will not tolerate such crimes.
Kanu stressed that those who steal or damage state property will face severe consequences. “The state government is using this medium to warn all unscrupulous persons whose stock in trade is to steal and vandalize government property to desist from such criminal tendencies or be ready to face the wrath of the law,” he said.
Meanwhile, Abia is set to make history with a Guinness World Records attempt. Noah Geoffrey, an Aba resident, plans to paint 300 faces in one hour, aiming to break the current record of 217. The event, approved by Guinness World Records, is scheduled for 23 May 2025 at Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic in Aba.
The State Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy is supporting Geoffrey. All materials, including canvases, will come from Aba. Kanu said this showcases Abia’s creative talent globally.
