This region is clearly up at arms. Itself is its utmost target, prey and victims. Strangely enough, it appears it’s comfortable with that. No serious effort to fight back. Or even resist it. Their North is it! It is rolling along with the speed of light.
The villains? There’s no other way saying it: The killer Fulani terrorists, bandits, kidnappers, et al. They are holding every soul in the jugular. Thriving on the banditry business. As Nasir el-Rufai would want us to believe.

“Meet Mallam Adamu Reddington, the ultimate pillar of the Hong community in Adamawa State. As I call him Ray-Adam.
“A pious family man who never misses his five daily prayers. Adamu attends every peace meeting with the gravitas of a trusted elder.
“There’s just one tiny detail: By night, he is the chief intelligence officer and chief concierge for Fulani bandits.
“Talk about corporate multitasking! By day, he helps plan community security. By night, he hands over the blueprint and GPS coordinates of his neighbours’ homes to armed gangs.
“When a raid happens, Adamu is the first to arrive at the scene mourning louder than the bereaved and leading prayers for the victims he helped target.
“The real tragedy? His wide, confident smile when he was finally paraded in handcuffs. Why worry? In Nigeria, getting caught as a high-profile informant is often just a minor inconvenience before a ‘top stakeholder’ intervenes and gets you freed.”
And we have instances of such sordid cases in reckless abundance. They are the stark realities we confront every day. Starring us on the faces endlessly, seamlessly, ceaselessly.
Back to Anibaba’s uncommon narrative: “To those screaming ‘Not all Fulani are bandits!’, we know. But when the Adamus in your midst are running the local terror department while sitting on your peace boards, it’s time to stop the defensive excuses and flush out the traitors in your own living rooms.”
His glooming warning: “The most dangerous enemy is never the armed gunman standing outside your gate. It is the smiling neighbour who unlocks it from the inside while leading you in prayer.
“When a community chooses solidarity with the traitor over survival with the truth, it signs its own execution order.
“How many Adamus are all over the Fullani communities? How many are they within us?”
We have them in legions. Not only in the North. But, practically in every community in Nigeria. They are well spread. And well laid-out in our bushes and forests.
Their business is terror and terrorism. The ilk of el-Rufai, Sheikh Gumi, Sheikh Jingiri. They see nothing amiss, nothing unusual in that highly lucrative business.
Of course. We are all paying dearly for it. We have to. We are reaping the sore and sour fruits of our carelessness and lay-back. Our negligence. And the masterminds, sponsors, proponents, enablers. All of them. They feel at home with the evil being perpetrated. Unperturbed, unruffled, unflustered! Sad.
But this particular senator from the far North disagrees vehemently. He flaunts it with equal intensity. He protests it with all the breath in him. He resists the mess to the best of his limited strength and ability.
We they listen? He cares not. He surges on unshaken, unmoved. He is emotional in his tact. It is a deliberate intention. The ends, he believes strongly. Will certainly justify the means.
He struggles on undismayed. He refuses to be cajoled or cowed. He speaks his mind; the truth to the throne. Apart from his hoarse throaty voice. His countenance, body language, action and inaction, depict he’s in heavy distress.
But that won’t quench the burning flame in him. Senator Garuba Maidoki, Kebbi State does pretend it. Or feign it. He comes out on his own. And exposes himself to public sympathy.
He is strategic about it. He chooses his choice aptly. He turns the floor of the Senate to his rostrum. Very appropriate. Can’t be less timely. He gathers all the strength he can muster. And cries out. He roars:
“…And what’s my fault in Kebbi (State)? I stood up here in the Senate, to tell Nigerians to assist us that bandits are killing us.
“And suddenly the governor (Nasir Idris) thought I was fighting him. I have never fought the governor. I have nothing against him.”
Then why the hullaballoo? Maidoki responded promptly: “But my people that sent me here asked me to cry and I cried. And they appreciate.”
He rages to no end: “Three years since (President Bola) Tinubu’s government. Three years, 2024, 2025 and now 2026. The budget has not been implemented. He has never implemented a budget.”
True or false. He waits not from an answer. Time is not on his side. He realises that early enough. He is convinced it is absolutely correct. He explodes the more:
“How does a country run without a budget or selective financing of project? And we have borrowed and borrowed and borrowed. Where is the money we are borrowing?”
The senator asks into the air again. He does a predicted follow-up. With yet another query thrown to the Presidency: “All the revenue generating agencies in this country told us they have exceeded their targets. Where is the money going?
“I have utmost respect for him (Tinubu). For him as a nationalist, as a gentleman. If anybody is telling him all is well, it’s lies. The earlier he makes effort to correct these imbalances, particularly on the implementation of budget. The earlier for him.” On spot!
Maidoki has more up his sleeves: “Otherwise, wallahi, he will live to regret this. Nigerians are suffering. Nigerians are complaining.” This is what they do not want to hear. Not even faintly. But they must hear it. Loudest and clearest. Let them pretend otherwise.
Help. This senator is not done yet: “As a father, we want him to listen. And with the voices of Nigeria. And bring succour.” He remains adamant, blatant and unyielding:
“Whoever is telling him otherwise is lying to him. We will continue to give him good advice. But taking good advice is his prerogative. At least up till now that this democracy has not been truncated.”
His palpable worry: “But we are afraid that if it continues this way, it’s not the military that will truncate this democracy. It is the ordinary people on the street.”
This is a reasonable lone voice. And it’s all from the far North. The way every Nigerian should reason, feel and care. Not only the North.
At this our critical crossroads. It’s a pleasant cue to move forward. So? Let’s all queue behind Senator Maidoki.
It is worthwhile and viable.
