Akwa Ibom state governor pastor Umo Eno has increased youths participation in governance and engaged them across the 31 local government areas within the past 3 years of implementation of Arise Agenda in the state .
Speaking during the ongoing Ministerial Briefing at Government House Uyo to mark the 39th anniversary of Akwa Ibom state, the Commissioner for Youths Dr Ekerette Ekanem said pastor Umo Eno has continued to empower the youths including involvement in governance .
Ekanem who was accompanied by Commissioner for Information Hon Aniekan Umanah at the briefing explained that Eno has trained and constructed and equipped Youth Development Centres across 31 local government areas in the state.
According to the Commissioner, Governor Umo Eno has also engaged youths through appointment of Personnel Assistants (wards PAs) from 369 wards, employment of 7,000 youths into the state civil service, verification of 2,133 youths by security agencies for training into the state security architecture among others .
” Youth Development Centres have been commissioned in 11 local government areas while the project is ongoing other council areas
” We celebrate Arise youth skill day where 25 – 50 benefit with cash prize during the youth skill day in line with United Nations provisions ”
Ekanem mentioned that the administration has intervened in youth leadership development by constituting Unyenge youth Association to strengthen youth leadership in Mbo local government area
” We have assist the youth to constitute state youth leadership structure . Village youth presidents have verified and integrate into the state security system
” This would help government in intelligence gathering to fight crimes at grassroot
” This would help to protect public assets and infrastructure ” .
Ekanem also stated that governor Umo Eno has paid N6.9b WAEC/ NABTEB examination fees for youths in secondary secondary schools while their counterpart in tertiary institutions have benefitted from N1.96b bursaries as well as N50,000 each to those who wrote the just concluded computer base test (CBT) for employment into the state civil service.
” We have also added N20,000 to Akwa Ibom indigene under the compulsory National Youth Service Scheme serving in any part of Nigeria
” Let me use this briefing to confirm that the amount has been paid till date . Don’t mind our critics who have gone to social media claiming that Akwa Ibom indigene have been neglected in this exercise.”
He therefore urged youths in the state to mobilize support for re election of President Bola Tinubu ,Senator Godswill Akpabio and pastor Umo in 2027 general elections.
” With these performance and inclusion of youths in government of the state , I urge you to support the re election of President Bola Tinubu, senator Godswill Akpabio and pastor Umo Eno next year”
