The Special Assistant to the Imo State governor on Youth Development, Hon Eric Uwakwe, has called on the US government to collaborate with Nigeria on peace and conflict resolution, saying that any challenge to the sovereignty of Nigeria is a threat to Africa.

Uwakwe stated this against the background of the recent threat by US President Donald Trump to strike terrorists killing Christians in Nigeria.

Speaking at the 5th APRM Youth Symposium of the Pan-African Parliament held at Midrand, South Africa, at the weekend, Uwakwe emphasised that any challenge to Nigeria’s sovereignty would be a threat to the entire African nation, especially considering Nigeria’s critical role in maintaining regional stability in Africa.

“As a sovereign nation, Nigeria’s security and peace are vital to the stability of the entire African continent. The US and Nigeria need to partner for effective peace and conflict resolution for the benefit of the African continent.

“I commend President Donald Trump for his concern about Nigeria’s peace and security and thank President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his wisdom in resolving conflicts.”

Meanwhile, Uwakwe also called for collaboration across Africa and Europe, emphasising the importance of skills, solidarity, and visionary integration for Africa’s youth.

He emphasised that true prosperity encompasses dignity, justice, education, and a healthy planet and that Africa’s youth must be recognised, supported, and empowered to lead.

The symposium was themed “Youth in Governance: From Promise to Prosperity”.
