A pressure group, Equity Movement Turn By Turn has described support for Mr Peter Obi’s presidency under the Labour Party (LP) platform within and outside Nigeria as unimaginable and a revolution which only spiritual Nigerians could understand.
National Chairman of the group, Hon Gaius Ezeh in a statement, yesterday, sent in from Abuja, said Nigerians had no other option than to accept what he described as the wind of change blowing across the country.
He noted that even Mr Obi might not have imagined it.
“As it stands now, even if Mr Obi on his own withdraws from the race, the masses will not accept that and there will be crisis in this country. Yes, the tension is as high as that.
“The pulse of the moment now is Obi-Datti. This is very clear. But how do we realize this goal is another big question. Is it just by voting labour party for presidency?
“The answer is capital no. The project can only be realized by massively voting labour party and the entire LP candidates for the National Assembly. This will enable the LP to have a simple majority of the party in both the Senate and House of Representatives.
“Without this, there will be danger ahead which must be avoided, if Nigerians earnestly desire this change, ” he noted.
He said that the Equity Movement Turn By Turn had given its support to the position of Bishop Chukwuma of Enugu Anglican Diocese who had canvassed that it should be “Obi-dient” all through for the Presidency and National Assembly.
“If we simply vote in Peter Obi and his Vice for Presidency and fail to vote in a reasonable number of LP candidates for the National Assembly, when Obi assumes the seat, he will be compelled to abandon his party manifestoes to tilt towards the whims and caprices of members of the National Assembly from other political parties.
“He will do that to remain in office or be impeached! That takes Nigerians back to square one. This must be avoided. As for winning the election, we know that he is there already, ” he said.
He appealed to religious groups, opinion leaders and all strata of society to help guide the electorate, before it is too, according to him. He said that had to be done to realize the objective of the on-going revolution.
“It is not wise for us to still think that politics is”dirty” and should be left for “dirty” politicians! We have suffered enough bad leadership in Nigeria. Our children are now at home doing nothing, some have taken to all sorts of criminal activities while the children of our leaders are graduating from first class universities outside Nigeria.
“A dollar is now exchanging for N730 and may hit one thousand by the end of this year. What is the fate of salaried workers now? Is it food that Nigerians have on the table? A bag of rice is about N38,000now! Big Companies that should provide employment for our youth have since relocated to other West African countries. Hard and harsh conditions are pushing our youth into crimes that make them lose their lives. All these will be addressed, when we have a good leader, ” he concluded.
