Against the backdrop of ongoing intra party crisis in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the former Secretary General, Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Mr. Anthony Sani has said that the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu should resign to avoid suspicion and distrust among members of the party.
Sani noted that as long as ethnicity and religious bigotry could fuel politics of identity, Ayu’s resignation will help to promote sense of belonging by carrying all party members along.
In a chat with Daily Sun, the former ACF Scribe said, “In so far as distrust and suspicion among ethnic nationalities, religious bigotry and regionalism persist and fuel politics of identity, you would be right in suggesting that Senator Ayu should have resigned his position as chairman of the party in order to promote sense of belonging by carrying the party members along.
“But how I wish our political elite would supplant politics of real issues of real concern to real Nigerians on politics of identity symbolized by ethnic nationalism, religious bigotry and regionalism.
“It is my hope that the campaigns will be issue based and the incoming government will bring about some form of cultural Renaissance by helping to rewire the politics, re-engineer our sense of justice, make mercy smarter, hope more strategic and dare the rest of us to follow”.
