Super Falcons defender, Osinachi Ohale and former Nigerian striker, Mercy Akide have saluted the dogged spirit of the women national team despite the loss to Morocco Monday night.
Ohale, who marshaled the defense line for the nine-time African champions in a social media post, praised her teammates as worthy defending champions of the AWCON trophy.
“A team and more super proud of ya’ll, we left everything on that field yesterday, yes the trophy might not come back with us but as far as I’m concerned we defended it yesterday. Jesus is still the way,”Ohale posted on Facebook.
Akide, on her part, lauded the overall performance of the team with a tweet; “Proud of you ladies! @NGSuper_Falcons,”she tweeted.
Meanwhile, the Super Falcons are back in Casablanca for their third place encounter against the She-polo polo of Zambia on Friday at the Stade Mohammed V, Casablanca.
The players and their officials arrived in Casablanca for the game Tuesday afternoon.
The nine-time champions failed to make it to the final of the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations after a 5-4 penalty shootout defeat to the Atlas Lionesses on Monday night.
It is the second time the West Africans will play in a third place match at the WAFCON.
The duo of Halimat Ayinde and Rasheedat Ajibade will miss the game through suspension.
