A Senior Lecturer at the Department of Mass Communication, Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) Agbani, Maxwell Menkiti Ngene, has congratulated the Managing Director and Editor-in-Chief of The Sun Newspapers, Mr Onuoha Ukeh, for emerging the new General Secretary of the Nigerian Guild of Editors ((NGE).
The NGE held its Biennial National Convention in Enugu State on Friday, June 27, where the editors elected new executives with Mr Ukeh defeating two other contestants for the General Secretary position to emerge victorious.
In his congratulatory message, Ngene expressed happiness that Ukeh won in a landslide in the election that was keenly contested.

Your leadership has been instrumental in shaping the newspaper’s editorial direction, and your vision has inspired a team of talented journalists to produce high-quality content that informs, educates, and entertains readers.
“Your election as General Secretary of the Nigerian Guild of Editors is a recognition of your outstanding contributions to the profession. Your peers have implicit confidence in your ability to provide strategic leadership, promote the interests of editors and journalists, and advocate for press freedom and media independence.
“Beyond your professional achievements, you are also known for your exceptional qualities as a person. Your humility, kindness, and generosity have earned you the respect and admiration of your colleagues and peers. Your willingness to encourage, mentor, and support young journalists attests to your commitment to nurturing the next generation of media leaders.”
The senior lecture said that as Ukeh assumes his new role, he has no doubt that he would bring his wealth of experience, knowledge, and passion to promote the values of excellent journalism, media ethics, and press freedom.
“Your leadership will undoubtedly inspire and motivate editors and journalists across Nigeria to strive for excellence and uphold the highest standards of professionalism at all times.
