The Main Organising Committee (MOC) of the 22nd National Sports Festival, Gateway Games 2024, has finally computed the medals table and Team Edo’s outcry answered as its cumulated medals have been added up.
The Technical officials of Team Edo had complained that the medals awarded to them were short of what they won and in a reversed medals table sourced from the Games’ portal, Team Edo has now jumped to 4th on table with 40 gold, 72 silver and 64 bronze medals to accumulated a total of 176 medals behind Delta State with 76 gold, 46 silver and 64 bronze medals ahead of Bayelsa on 50 gold, 35 silver and 38 bronze medals and host, Ogun with 41 gold, 28 silver and 40 bronze medals.
The chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon Desmond Enabulele had sued for understanding from his officials that he believes the MOC would do justice to the cries of the state contingent.
An elated board member of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Frank Ilaboya expressed satisfaction with the MOC for the diligence in computing the overall medals table.
“I’m quite happy that the organisers swiftly acted on our compliant and quickly corrected the medals table. This has boosted the atmosphere in our camp and the athletes have promised to target more medals,” the former Edo State Football Association boss said.
