From Noah Ebije, Kaduna
Chairman, House Committee on Health Care Services and Member representing Zangon Kataf/Jaba Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, Hon. Amos Gwamna Magaji has said that his people would have stoned him to death if he had defected to All Progressive Congress (APC) at a time they were still in love with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Magaji who dumped the PDP for APC recently attributed his easy movement to the ruling party to governor Uba Sani’s inclusive governance where people of Southern Kaduna have been carried along in his government
The lawmaker spoke with newsmen at the weekend shortly after receiving Authentic Special Award of Recognition For The Year 2024 at the 10th edition of Authentic News Daily awards/Lectures.
Hon. Magaji disclosed that he left PDP at a time his constituents were no longer interested in the opposition party, adding that he remains committed to delivering quality representation through people-centred legislation and health sector reforms.
He said his performance and the will of the people will determine his next political move within the National Assembly polity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“Before now, if I had joined APC, my people might have stoned me. But now there is a breath of hope. Uba Sani has performed well, in visits, in projects, and in appointments. The people of Southern Kaduna are beginning to believe in this government.
“My move into the APC was driven by the renewed faith of my constituents in the current administration, and the party, APC is poised for victory in the next election cycle.
“With what we’re seeing, it’s going to be a done deal for Uba Sani in 2027 — and of course, the APC at the national level.
“I want to commend Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State for a new wave of inclusiveness in Southern Kaduna, the governor’s developmental strides and political appointments have restored confidence in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)”. Magaji said.
On his potential ambition for the Senate, the lawmaker hinted at a broader vision but maintained that any future step would be people-driven and orientated.
“2027 is still some years ahead and it’s in the hands of God. What we have been doing, we shall continue to do. The good work of promoting healthcare services in Nigeria, and especially in our constituency, will not stop.
“It’s not about running to unseat someone. It’s about quality representation. When the time comes, the people will decide. If they compare and find our record worthy, then so be it”. He added.
Magaji, who has consistently maintained a performance-over-promise posture, said his achievements in Zangon Kataf and Jaba speak for themselves.
“I am not someone that talks too much. I believe in action. Even our opponents can testify that God has used us to transform Zangon Kataf and Jaba. The Bible says he that is faithful in little will be faithful in much”. He said.
