The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State held its Local Government Congress on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, to elect new executives across the state’s 16 Local Government Areas (LGAs). Dr Eddy Olafeso, Chairman of the Electoral Panel, praised the peaceful and successful conduct of the exercise.

The congress began with member accreditation from 8:00 to 8:20 a.m., followed by voting from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Most LGAs elected executives through consensus, with a few opting for voting. Newly elected executives were inaugurated shortly after.

Olafeso expressed satisfaction: “Today’s Congress was hitch-free. No fighting, no killing, no beating. I am very impressed and grateful for the peace that characterised this Congress across the 16 local government areas of the state and the success we achieved. The peace at which our people have embraced this moment, the energy with which we are rewriting our history, you can see peace radiating in all the local governments, you can see organisation.”

We are a due process party and we want to ensure in everything we do including electing our leaders, we are actually taking into consideration our party’s constitution and guidelines.” Olafeso thanked electoral officers and congratulated the new executives, urging them to serve the people.

Looking to the 2026 governorship election, Olafeso, a former PDP National Vice Chairman (Southwest), called for unity: “Let us keep faith, let us work together, let us be united, let us be focused, the mission is to salvage the people from poverty and let us create a new beginning for prosperity.” He predicted a PDP victory: “Ekiti State will return to PDP in 2026 and our party will restore prosperity to Ekiti again.”

Ekiti PDP Caretaker Chairman, Chief Dare Adeleke, echoed Olafeso’s praise, thanking the party’s National Working Committee, INEC, security agencies, and the electoral panel for their roles in the congress’s success.
