The Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo has urged the Ogun State government to be a good host.
Senator Ewhrudjakpo made this declaration on Monday at the Peace Park opposite the Bayelsa State Government House, Yenagoa, on the occasion of receiving the National Sports Festival torch of unity slated to hold in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The Deputy Governor noted that with Team Bayelsa, emerging winners in the maiden edition of the recently concluded NDDC Sports Festival in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State for the Niger Delta states, that Bayelsa State contingent is being expected to finish in the podium again in this said 22nd National Sports Festival, tagged the Gateway Games.
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Commissioner for the Bayelsa State Ministry of Sports Development, Chief Baraladei Daniel Igali, said with the movement of the festival torch of unity from one State of the federation to the other now, clearly signifies that National Sports Festival is now very much at hand, and that with the obvious success stories recorded every now and then currently by the Bayelsa State contingent in every sporting engagement in any given part of the world tells the fact, that Bayelsa State is now the epicenter of sporting glory in the country.
Adding his voice at the programme, the Bayelsa State Director of Sports, Sir Braveman Wodi, simply stated that the Bayelsa State team is very much set for the event.
Also speaking, leader of the team from the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mrs. Ikana Mbora, stated that the ritual of torch arriving Bayelsa State now simply means that the National Sports Commission (NSC) is now formally welcoming Bayelsa State to this year’s fiesta. Others in the team of the NSC also include Ubong Sylvester and Njoku Peter the Zonal Coordinator NSC South-South Zone.
Highlight of the event was the receiving of the said torch of unity by his Excellency Senator EWhrudjakpo, on behalf of the state governor.
