The people of Swali community, a suburb of Yenagoa, Bayelsa  State capital, have been thrown into mourning following the brutal killing of four people by suspected cultists yesterday ,Easter Monday. 

Investigations revealed that the gunmen invaded the community from the nearby Ekole Creek and attacked the people who were celebrating Easter.

In the melee that ensued, several people were  injured and  taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa, after the gunmen left the community.

Sources said the motive for the attack was not known because the victims are not troublesome people.

Bayelsa State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Musa Mohammed, who confirmed the incident, identified one of those killed as Ronke Agada.

According to him, the Command has deployed a detachment of Police to the area to ensure there was no breakdown of law and order.

Mohammed stated that investigation was  ongoing to identify those behind the attack and ensure that they would face the full wrath of the law.

Meanwhile, member House of Assembly,representing Yenagoa Constituency 1, Hon.Ayibanegiyefa Egba, has expressed sadness over the incident.

Ayibanegiyefa, who visited the community to condole with families of the victims,called on the people to stand together in this difficult period.

‘’I was at Swali Community, where I witnessed firsthand the impact of the recent brutal attack that claimed four innocent lives. As the representative of Yenagoa Constituency 1, I wish to express my deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and the entire Swali community. I condemn this barbaric act in the strongest terms and assure the community of my commitment to their safety and security.

‘’I urge the community to remain united and vigilant in the face of adversity. Together, we can build a safer and more secure environment for all. Let us work together to strengthen our community’s roots and branches, ensuring that we stand tall against adversity.

‘’I will work tirelessly to ensure that the community’s request for a police post is conveyed to Governor Douye Diri and implemented to enhance their safety.’’

The Paramount Ruler of Swali Community, HRH Wilcox Seiyefa Job, who commended Ayibanegiyefa for her concern and support, reiterated the call for the government to ensure there are police posts at strategic locations to avert future attacks.
