A former Technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Sunday Adeleye, has officially announced his candidacy for the presidency of the Federation as the competition heats up ahead of next month’s AFN elections.

Adeleye, a former national athlete, brings extensive administrative experience to the contest, having previously served as the athletes’ representative on the AFN board. He has also held the role of Executive Assistant to former Sports Minister, John Enoh and currently serves in a similar capacity under the Minister of State for Industry.

With this announcement, Adeleye joins an increasing list of candidates, which includes incumbent President Tonobok Okowa, former AFN President Ibrahim Gusau, and retired Navy Commodore Omatseye Nesiama, who is also a former Technical Director of the AFN.

In outlining his vision, Adeleye emphasised the importance of grassroots development, pledging to work closely with state athletics associations to identify and nurture emerging talent.
