Alhaji Adamu Waziri, a former Yobe State gubernatorial candidate and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, has clarified the party’s stance on coalition talks ahead of the 2027 elections while dismissing rumours of his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking to PDP members in Potiskum, Yobe’s largest town, over the weekend, the former Minister of Police Affairs (2010) addressed the party’s challenges and its role as a leading opposition force.

Waziri acknowledged internal struggles, stating, “The PDP is going through a lot of trials and tribulations. The party needs to be repositioned to play the leading opposition role, to see how the problems that are afflicting Nigeria are addressed in 2027.”

He admitted that party members and leaders bear responsibility for these issues but expressed confidence that the PDP would overcome them.

Denying defection claims, Waziri affirmed his loyalty to the PDP, saying, “I am very, very much involved in the coalition and merger talks between the PDP members and other members of other political parties.”

He revealed ongoing discussions with elements from the PDP, APC, and Labour Party, aimed at forming a robust platform to challenge the APC’s governance.

“There are elements of other opposition parties that are in Nigeria all trying to come together to build a strong political platform that will be able to deliver its candidates so that the terrible misrule of the APC is addressed,” he added.

Waziri’s remarks underscore the PDP’s efforts to unify and strengthen its position for the 2027 elections.
