Dr George Moghalu, the Labour Party (LP) candidate for the Anambra State governorship election, has pledged to unite party leaders in his bid to win and bring Anambra into the LP fold. He made the promise on Tuesday while receiving his Certificate of Return at the LP National Headquarters in Abuja.

Moghalu also reached out to John Nwosu, his rival in the recent LP primaries held over the weekend in Awka. He called the primary free and fair, thanking the party for ensuring a level playing field. “For me, nobody won, nobody lost. Labour Party won,” he said. “It is my responsibility to stretch out my hands of fellowship to my brother and friend who had the courage to contest the election.”

He praised the delegates’ choice. “He committed no offence by expressing his desire to lead like I did, but the choice of who to represent the party in the forthcoming election was for the delegates to make,” Moghalu said. “And to the glory of God, I happened to be the beneficiary of that decision, for which I give God the glory.”

Moghalu thanked LP leaders. “I am totally indebted to our national leader, His Excellency Peter Obi, the Abia State Governor, Dr Alex Otti, all our National Assembly members, and even members of the state Houses of Assembly,” he said. “I will reach out to all of them. I would like all of us to come together under one roof and do the needful by winning this election and adding it to the Labour Party family.”

He vowed not to let the party down. “I want to assure the party leadership that I am setting out on this mission with a firm commitment not to disappoint any of you,” he said. “We are going to go into this election, and we are going to win. I believe very strongly that power belongs to God, and He gives to whom He wishes at His own time, and I believe that the time is now.”

Deputy National Chairman Chief Clement Ojukwu promised full support. He said the LP is determined to win Anambra and will work hard to make it happen. National Secretary Alhaji Umar Farouk presented the certificate, joined by other National Working Committee members.
