From Scholastica Hir, Makurdi

The General Manager of the Benue State Environmental Sanitation Authority (BENSESA), Mrs. Nashima Daniel, has received representatives of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Nigeria on a courtesy call at her office in Makurdi, Benue State, where they requested assistance in evacuating waste from Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps across the state.

The IOM representatives, Mr. Kachallah Ibrahim and Ms. Juliette De Gaultier, made the request during their visit to the General Manager, seeking BENSESA’s collaboration to address waste management challenges in IDP camps, including Ukpiam, Daudu, Gbajimba, Ortese, and others.

Ibrahim explained that the IOM has been actively involved in supporting IDP camps through initiatives such as providing shelters, water, sanitary facilities like toilets, routine cleaning of immediate surroundings, and attending to health needs, among others.

He noted that the organization is currently overstretched in delivering these services, necessitating a partnership with BENSESA to complement its efforts by evacuating waste and promoting total cleanliness across the IDP camps, in line with IOM’s mission and vision.

Responding, the General Manager of BENSESA, Mrs. Nashima Daniel, commended the IOM representatives for their laudable interventions in crisis- and disaster-affected areas of the state, describing their actions as a significant relief to Benue State.

In a statement signed by the Information Officer, Simon Iorver, Mrs. Daniel promised a swift response to the request, assuring that BENSESA would immediately conduct a feasibility study through its Public Health Department to facilitate prompt action.
