The National Universities Commission (NUC) has approved 16 new undergraduate programmes for Hensard University, Bayelsa State.
The approved courses are Medicine and Surgery, Nursing Science, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Petroleum and Gas Engineering and Marine Engineering.
Others include Anatomy, Physiology, Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Health Information Management, Medical Laboratory Science, Physiotherapy, Public Health and Radiography.
A letter signed by the NUC’s acting director, Academic Planning, Abubakar M. Girei, confirmed the approval of the courses.
The NUC in an earlier letter dated January 22, 2025, had approved 14 programmes, offered full-time at the university, starting in the 2024/2025 session.
The programmes are: Pharmacy, Law, Biology Education, Mathematics Education, Chemistry Education, Integrated Science, Educational Management, Primary Education, Guidance and Counselling, Entrepreneurship Education, Business Education, Agricultural Education and Education Technology.
In his reaction, the vice-chancellor, Prof. Dileep Kumar, expressed delight at the approval and lauded the commitment of the university’s chancellor, Senator Seriake Dickson, to expanding access to quality education with Hensard’s global linkages.
