In a major development for the state’s infrastructure, the Lagos State government has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Summa Group, a globally recognized construction company, to build the much-anticipated Lekki-Epe International Airport.

This landmark agreement marks a significant step forward in the government’s efforts to enhance Lagos’ connectivity and bolster its status as an economic powerhouse in Africa.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made the announcement yesterday via his verified X handle, outlining the transformative impact of the airport on the state’s growth and development.

He described the project as an essential part of the state’s long-term vision to improve regional and international travel while creating economic opportunities for local businesses and residents.

“The Lekki-Epe International Airport is a critical part of our vision to transform Lagos into a global hub for business and tourism. This initiative will greatly enhance connectivity within and outside the state, further positioning Lagos as a prime destination for global investments and commercial activities,” said Governor Sanwo-Olu.

The project, which is set to be constructed in the rapidly developing Lekki-Epe axis, is expected to serve as a catalyst for the region’s economic expansion. Once completed, the new airport will significantly increase air traffic capacity, supporting both local and international flights. This will not only ease the pressure on the existing Murtala Muhammed International Airport but also provide a modern gateway to the region, creating a more efficient and reliable transportation network for travelers.

Additionally, the development of the Lekki-Epe International Airport is expected to stimulate the growth of surrounding areas, attracting businesses, creating jobs, and boosting tourism.

Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that the project aligns with the state’s commitment to providing critical infrastructure that meet global standards while fostering economic development at all levels.

The airport will serve as a key economic driver for Lagos, a city that has become one of Africa’s most dynamic and diverse economies. Its location in the Lekki-Epe area is poised to open up significant opportunities for residential, commercial, and industrial growth, with the potential to revolutionize the transport and logistics sectors in the region.
