Purple Mall, the newly launched, multi-functional hub in Lekki, has quickly positioned itself as a cutting-edge destination that blends retail, leisure and wellness in an innovative space.
The management of the facility said over 3,000 Nigerians will work in the place.
Not only does it offer a platform for businesses to thrive, but it also provides residents and visitors with accommodation options, recreational amenities, and a wellness-focused gym, making it a truly unique offering in Lagos.
At the unveiling of the mall, Mr. Laide Agboola, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, spoke passionately about the vision that guided the creation of Purple Mall.
“We are a community-centered mall, strategically located where people can easily walk or drive to. Our goal was to bring together a variety of essential services in one place, where the community can access not only retail but also entertainment, wellness, and living spaces.
“From healthcare and pharmacy services to supermarkets and cinemas, this space is designed to meet a wide range of needs. It’s about creating a space that embodies the essence of convenience and modern living.”
Agboola explained that the mall is more than just a shopping center—it’s an experience. The complex will feature a fitness center, a health and wellness zone, as well as both short-term and long-term stay apartments. These living options cater to both local residents and those visiting from within Nigeria or abroad for business or tourism. “Whether you’re here for a few days or a few months, this is a space designed to meet your needs,” he added.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who officiated at the unveiling, lauded the mall for its forward-thinking approach and job creation efforts but urged the board and management to replicate this success in other parts of Lagos. “This development is a testament to the power of innovation, and I challenge you to bring this prosperity to every corner of Lagos. Our city must develop in a balanced way, ensuring that every neighborhood benefits from initiatives like this one,” said Governor Sanwo-Olu.
The Governor emphasised that the Lagos State Government is fully committed to fostering an environment where businesses can thrive. “I assure you that we are ready to support initiatives like this, whether it’s removing red tape or providing the necessary resources. When businesses flourish, they create jobs and contribute to the city’s growth, and that’s exactly what we need in Lagos.”
Highlighting the environmental consciousness of the project, Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that Purple Mall is designed with sustainability in mind. “The developers have created an eco-friendly space that prioritises environmental responsibility, including waste management systems and reducing carbon emissions,” he remarked, underscoring that such efforts align with Lagos’ green goals for the future.
Mr. Obinna Onunkwo, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Purple Mall, shared insights into the financial and long-term vision of the project.
“We’ve committed approximately N80 billion to bring this vision to life, and our focus is on both the immediate success of the mall and its sustainability over time. Our long-term goal is to build infrastructure that will make a lasting impact on the community,” he said.
With over 3,000 Nigerians employed and the promise of long-term growth and development, Purple Mall is already making a tangible difference in the lives of Lagosians. The project not only exemplifies innovation in retail and living spaces but also serves as a catalyst for social and economic empowerment.
“As the mall continues to evolve, it is clear that Purple Mall is more than just a place to shop—it is a symbol of Lagos’ future. With its blend of business, leisure, and living spaces, the development is setting the stage for a new era of urban growth and opportunity in Lagos, one that could inspire similar projects across the city.
“So within the building we’ve got a gym, we also have a fitness center. We also have a health and wellness center coming up within the building as well. At the same time, we are also going to have long and short stay apartments within the building where people can live, stay for short periods, stay for long periods, whether you’re a domestic, whether you live in Lagos or outside Lagos or outside the country and you’re coming in for vacation, business, or tourism, we have all that space within this building,” he stated.
Earlier, the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who unveiled the Mall, challenged the board and management to replicate what they have done in Lekki in other parts of Lagos.
