The Murtala Mohammed Airport Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has said it achieved a 99.89% increase in revenue for 2024. At a press briefing held in Lagos on Tuesday, the command said it generated a revenue of N180,750,786,844.36 in 2024, from the N90,426,185,447.01 generated in 2023.
The Customs Area Controller of the MMA Command, Comptroller Micheal Awe, while addressing journalists, highlighted the Command’s revenue achievements, saying, “In 2024, we achieved a significant milestone in revenue generation, reaching N180,750,786,844.36, compared to N90,426,185,447.01 in 2023. This represents an increase of N90,324,601,397.35, or 99.89%.”
He further explained that the revenue target for 2024 was N179,739,241,526.36, but the Command exceeded this target by generating a total revenue of N180,750,786,844.36. This surplus of N1,011,545,282.00, he said, marks a 0.56% increase over the target.
Comptroller Awe said the Command would restrategise and rejig its systems to block revenue leakages, increase generated revenue, and surpass the 2025 target. “We are dedicated to maintaining our open-door policy, engaging with stakeholders, sister agencies, and the media, which are critical to our success,” he said. On the seizures made by the Command in 2024, he said they include 21 packages of 225mg Tramadol Hydrochloride, 50 rounds of 9mm live ammunition, 54 packages of military hardware, 46 packages of dried sea cucumber, three packages of dried donkey male genitals, 55 pieces of Jojef tomahawk semi-automatic rifle, 50 packages of dried Canadian cannabis, 225 pieces of drones, 250 pieces of turtles, one package of pangolin skin, one package of porcupine thorns and mineral stones.
Awe said these seized items have a cumulative Duty-Paid Value (DPV) of ₦10,511,889,799 and emphasised the Command’s commitment to intercepting illegal items and protecting the nation’s borders. He expressed his gratitude to the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi for support, which he said has been instrumental in the Command’s achievements.
