Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have killed scores of terrorists in Zamfara State.

The troops achieved this feat while on a fighting patrol in response to a distress call from the residents and vigilantes of Yar Galadima village in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara.

Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, Coordinator of the Joint Media Coordination Centre for Operation Fansan Yamma, reported that the incident occurred in the early hours of 1 December. Troops from Forward Operating Base (FOB) Hanutara were alerted at around 5 am to a terrorist attack on the village. The troops promptly responded to provide assistance and restore peace to the affected area.

Abdullahi stated that during the patrol, the troops encountered terrorists who had laid ambush at two different locations on the approach to the village. The ambush sites were cleared by the troops, resulting in the neutralisation of some terrorists while others fled.

Additionally, the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma deployed aircraft to provide close air support as the troops advanced towards the village. The fleeing terrorists were engaged by the aircraft, leading to the neutralisation of more terrorists.

Operation Fansan Yamma remains committed to eliminating terrorist threats in the North West and Niger State.
