…Governor appoints Sulaiman Aledeh EBS managing director

The decisive action of the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, in galvanising security agencies to halt cult-related killings in the State has paid off, as normalcy has returned to Benin City, the State capital.

The Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Fred Itua, who announced this in a statement, yesterday, said “Multiple reports now indicate that normalcy has returned to the ancient city as cult-related death has been brought under control”.

The statement further stated that “The Governor is committed to ensuring that people go about their routine business activities as security agencies are on red alert patrolling strategic locations across the State to ensure no death is recorded as we approach the festive season”.

It will be recalled that the Governor had on assumption of office on November 12, 2024, inherited a terrible security situation in the State, as cult clashes leading to bloodbaths. 

“Matching words with actions, Governor Okpebholo in his maiden security council meeting at the Government House, said the issue of cultism dominated the discussions, stressing that his administration would not fold its arms, while cult-related killings go on in the State,” the statement read.

Meanwhile, the governor has approved the appointment of Suleiman Aledeh as the substantive Managing Director of the Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS). The appointment takes immediate effect.

In statement yesterday, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua, said: “Aledeh is an international journalist, editor-at-large, strategic media, and communications consultant. He has over two decades of experience in broadcast journalism across both radio and television. He has made significant contributions to prestigious international news channels, including Al Jazeera, SABC, and GB News UK. Currently, he anchors various news programmess at Arise News and shares his insights on Classic FM.

“A graduate of Philosophy from the University of Benin (1999), Sulaiman began his media career while still a student, working at Edo Broadcasting Service.

“He later served at Ebonyi Radio during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme, becoming the first corps member permitted to read the station’s major news bulletin.

“He further established his voice at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, where he created and presented influential shows.

“His journey into national television began with one of Africa’s foremost media companies, where he anchored flagship news programs on TVC and Channels Television.

“His tenure at Channels TV further solidified his expertise in producing compelling television content, delivering some of the network’s most memorable promos, and covering significant events, including the 2011 and 2015 general elections.

“As the Assistant General Manager and Head of Media and Communications at Eko Disco, Nigeria’s leading electricity distribution company, Aledeh demonstrated strong leadership in strategic communication.

“He is a Fellow of the Institute of Public Diplomacy and Management and an Associate of the Nigeria Institute of Public Relations.

“Sulaiman holds a Master’s Degree in Humanitarian and Refugee Studies from the University of Lagos and has served as a Special Correspondent and News Anchor at Arise News in London and Lagos,” the statement said.
