27 widows drawn from different branches of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Province 1, has received a N100,000 each, to support their entrepreneurial ventures.
Addressing newsmen at the church premises yesterday, the Priest in charge of Province 1, Pastor Samuel Olaniyan, urged the wealthy not to ignore the poor the society as mandated by divinity. “When you give to the widows and fatherless, God takes special notice of it. We do this regularly, some of them we pay their children school fees, some we help them boost businesses”
Olaniyan who’s the assistant Pastor in charge of Region 1, while admonishing widows and widowers forum, reminded other clergymen and Christians in the country that, giving to the needy is one of the core central focus of the gospel, which is at the heart of God.
“The more you give, the more you receive, that is what the Holy Book tells us. With this cash gift, they can boost their trade, vocation and start up new micro businesses. We must continue to preach it, let the rich help the poor, there is a blessing attached to giving” he implored.
Similarly, the Chairman of the Christian Social Responsibilities of the church, Pastor Olalekan Gbotolorun, said the Widows/Widower empowerment Program, was part of the church’s biblical mandate to carter for the poor and advance the Kingdom of God.
Gbotolorun reminded Christian faithful in the country that true religion is that which takes care of the widows and the fatherless in the society and without which, their Christianity is incomplete. He encouraged federal and state government do something to reverse the ugly economic situation ravaging the citizens.
“We must help the poor. There are huge blessings attached to giving especially giving to the poor in our midst. For the government across levels, they should come up with sound policies to better the life of Nigerians” he added.
A beneficiary, Chinwendu Okoye, a mother of four, expressed gladness and optimism said, “This one hundred thousand naira will help me in my micro business. I sell articles and I needed help, now the church of God has come to my aid. I urged other widows in the society to hold their peace, keep the faith alive and pray to God, one day God will remember them as He did to me” she assured.
