Barring any unexpected changes in plans, the Governing Councils for universities, polytechnics and colleges of education would be inaugurated on Thursday.
President Bola Tinubu had stopped the inauguration of the Councils a few weeks ago due to some identified irregularities in the composition of the membership of the Councils.
However, a new membership list was released a few weeks ago with some amendments on the constitution of the council.
Tertiary institutions in Nigeria have been operating without governing councils for over a year, and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), unsatisfied with the development, threatened to embark on nationwide strike if the Federal Government failed to inaugurate the Councils within two weeks.
Daily Sun gathered that the inauguration will be immediately followed by a retreat for the members to acquaint them with what’s expected of them, in addition to their responsibilities, to avoid unnecessary interference/clashes in the day-to-day activities of their respective institutions.
