From Juliana Taiwo-Obalonye, Abuja
The First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has highlighted the pivotal role of women in maintaining the territorial integrity and peaceful coexistence of Africans.
In a statement issued by Busola Kukoyi, Mrs. Tinubu made these remarks while hosting members of the Organisation of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) to lunch in Abuja on Tuesday.
She stressed that the role of First Ladies on the continent should be that of providing leadership in critical areas, particularly in child and family care.
She expressed her optimism that OAFLAD, as a platform, can do more to drive positive change on the continent.
“The passion we share for the wellbeing of our people will eventually help Africa to realize its full potential”, she said.
The First Ladies, who took turns to share their experiences, expressed a desire to push the frontiers of Pan Africanism and solidarity for the development of the continent.
During a guided tour, the visiting First Ladies were treated to some of the best of Nigeria’s cultural ambience. They all expressed their desire to visit the country again soon.
While some of the First Ladies have since returned to their home countries, others are to participate in the forthcoming High-Level Regional Seminar On Promoting Cancer Awareness And Advocacy Programmes For The Member States Of The Organisation Of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) with the theme, Innovative Approaches to Cancer Prevention and Early Treatment holding in Abuja from Wednesday 15th to Friday 17th May 2024.
