From Olanrewaju Lawal, Birnin Kebbi

The National Chairman of Police Community Relations Committee(PCRC), Alhaji Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan has said that Police Constable in Nigeria deserve to be paid monthly salary of N3m.

Olaniyan, who stated this while speaking with newsmen after the inauguration of the new State Executive of the PCRC in Kebbi State, said, due to the high risk facing everyday by Policemen across Nigeria, they deserved better salaries from the Governments.

The PCRC national Chairman, who also paid courtesy visit to the Wife of Kebbi State Governor, Hajiya Zainab Nasir Idris, the National Patron of the Organization, requested a working vehicles for the 25 newly inaugurated state executive.

While speaking with newsmen, Olaniyan said: ” by the virtue of their job,Police cannot embark on industrial strike like NLC is embarking of protest. What Nigeria’s Police are facing if not because of the laws guiding them,if they have the right to protest, their mothers and fathers will also be joining them in the protest and those who love Nigeria’s Police.

“But on our own at the level of PCRC,we are working with the Local Government, State and Federal governments to address the plights of the Nigerian’s Police. Our immediate past National Chairman,Dr. Maiyama had set up a committee on salaries and wages for the Nigeria Policemen which eventually led to the increment of their salaries. So, we are not relenting on this struggle.

“Because,if Labour says that they are demanding for N1m as minimum wage , PCRC will be protesting and requesting that the salary of Police Constable should be N3m. Because, when teachers and other civil servants are closing by 2p, Policemen across Nigeria are on duty 24/7”.

Olaniyan however commended the Wife of Kebbi State Governor,Hajiya Zainab Nasir Idris for her continuous support to both the women and youth wings of the PCRC stressed that, they have created platforms and membership in UK,Canada,Saudi Arabia and many countries to strengthen the organization.

In her response, the Governor’s Wife, Hajia Zainab Nasir Idris, described PCRC as a wonderful committee that sought to reform the society, recalling that she had been a member of the committee long ago together with the present state chairperson.
