Kano Governor, Abba Yusuf, has approved N1 billion for the payment of pending allowances and other commitments in state owned tertiary institutions.

Among the institutions are Yusuf Maitama Sule University  (YUMSUK) and Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH) Wudil, which got approvals for the  payment of Earned Academic and Excess workload allowances as well as other commitments to their staff.

Kano State Commissioner for Higher Education, Yusuf Kofarmata, stated this during the third joint meeting with heads of tertiary institutions in the state and top management staff of the Ministry of Education.

He explained that YUMSUK got an approval of N279 million to settle Earned Academic Allowances and N66 million for its convocation ceremony.

He added that ADUSTECH, Wudil got approval for over N629 million and N38 million for the payment of excess workload allowance and non-academic staff allowance respectively.

Kofarmata further disclosed the state government has also approved  the payment of 40 percent of the contract sum for the rebuilding of the burned theatre hall at the Aminu Kano College of Legal and Islamic Studies (AKCILS).

He assured the state government would release the funds as soon as possible.

Kofarmata commended the efforts of the chiefs of the institutions and expressed satisfaction with the numerous achievements recorded in the state’s educational sector since the inception of the administration

Speaking on behalf of the heads of state-owned tertiary institutions, Rector of Kano State Polytechnic, Abubakar Umar Faruk, commended the ministry for initiating the monthly meeting, describing it as a significant step in understanding the situations of the institutions and strengthening the cordial relationship.
